It is an antiseptic solution to prevent the bacteria from the previous patient to affect the present one. After use, the doctor / nurse replaces the thermometer in that same liquid.

this liquid is savlon or antibactericidal solution 2 kill bacteria and germes and not 2 transfere infections from one 2 another when testing his fever.

The liquid sterilises (kills bacteria) the needle. This prevents the needle from infecting anybody injected with it.
