Yes.

This is so because:

Speed = D / T

Bill's speed: is x / 36 min
Dog's speed: is (x / 36)(2) = (2x/36) = x / 18

Since speed is D/T, the dog takes 18 minutes.

yes, v = x/t. As times goes down, speed goes up at a constant rate.

in this case,Bill goes home in 38 min. The speed of the dog is twice the speed of Bill. Speed of the dog is doubled, then the time it takes the dog to walks home is reduced by one 1/2

yes it is ... you mathematically, velocity (speed) is distance over time (m/s) hence:

let's take distance of travel by X m. (d = X m)
time for bill to walk is 36 minutes (t1 = 36 min.)
velocity of dog = 2 x velocity of bill (V2 = 2 V1)
time for dog to walk home ? (t2?)

*distance of both bill and dog are the same

V2 = 2 V1
d/t2 = 2 x d/t1
*cross out the distance
1/t2 = 2 x 1/36
2 t2 = 36
t2 = 18 minutes

Sounds like it to me. Pretty odd question - makes it sound like the dog goes home to wait for Bill ;-)

Yes! It can be confusing because twice as fast makes you think you should multiply not divide by 2. But you are exactly correct.

Yes, but I wouldn't want a dog which walks off without me!
