Just wondering what y'all think this means: "To stare at something non-existent"?

I think just staring blankly into space.

It's an oxymoron, like "the silence was deafening."

i think it means to stare at nothing in particular... it's just like staring at everything and nothing at once kinda thing...

or maybe it's just like what they say, staring at paranormal things... hehe

Person is so engrossed with what they are thinking of they are unaware of what could be seen in front of their eyes.
