The stone releases the sword for Arthur because he is pure of heart and therefore the only guy of the lot worthy of the throne. The whole thing is enchanted, so mere physical strength would never be able to pry it loose.

King Arthur was and is purely legend...
He is made up of the exploits of at least 4 different men..
The real Merlin never knew the real Arthur/s...
The sword was in those days your personal weapon and protection, so stories of magical swords and bows etc were rife...
I tend to believe that magick was still part of our life back then and there, so perhaps Excalibur did indeed exist...
Considering that the Lady of the Lake, was adapted into Celtic mythology from Mary Magdalene...
Blessed Be... )O(

There are probably hundreds of stories about King Arthur. Start by looking him up through Google or Wikipedia. There are several books that collect many of his stories, so I would find those and start with those. 'Le Morte de Arthur' is one along with 'The Once and Future King' - these are probably the most famous. Good luck on your search, it should keep you busy for years.

Arthur was the illegitimate son of Uther Pendragon, and the rightful heir to the throne. It was Merlin who was said to have "ensorceled" the sword so that only the true-born king of England could move the sword :-)

Well, first of all, it wasn't Excalibur that Arthur pulled from the stone, that came later.
As for how he and only he was able to pull it:
1. he was pure hearted (supposedly) a rare thing indeed
2. he was the late King Uther's son (spelling?) whom he sired on the wife of one of his knights with the aid of Merlin's magic to make him look like her husband
3. in some versions, he was already being tutored by Merlin (some favoritism involved, perhaps?)

In many of these ancient stories, there is a bow, or, a sword, or, a parrot cage, which only the chosen one, the hero can handle correctly! It's a kind of training, special training of the mind, in the pupils' days with the preceptor or 'guru', that does the 'trick'!

the sword is belong to arthur's father
before he die, he cast a curse that just himself that can take the sword out
and arthur is his son
so his blood is in arthur's blood too
then it makes that curse don't have effect on arthur and think that arthur is his father
(is this true? or the movie has cheat me hihi)

I suppose King Arthur was the chosen one.
Plus, he probably ate his Wheaties.
