Judging by career filmography, what director do you think has made the most interesting films?

It's a tough decision for me. Eventually, I think Quentin Tarantino will have the title, but right now I must go with Stanley Kubrick.

His highlights: Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, Eyes Wide Shut.

Great answers so far. I'm surprised that Scorsese and Eastwood are underrepresented. Another I like that I don't think was mentioned is Richard Linklater.

Hey now, you asked two different questions: My favorite director, vs. one who has made the most interesting films.

It's midnight and I don't want to think very hard, so I'm going to go with the first question.

Favorite: TIM BURTON!

It used to be a toss-up between Tim Burton and Terry Gilliam, but Gilliam's recent work has shown a shift away from the wonderful fantasy adventures I fell in love over. Now Gilliam leans more toward character-driven drug-induced adventures that are hard to watch without getting seasick. They're still interesting movies in their own way, but for an overall career that I totally enjoy, I go with Tim Burton.

Can't pick just one. I like Stanley Kubrick or Wes Craven for scary movies. For funny ones I like John Hughes, Ron Howard & Amy Heckerling. For Science Fiction I'd say George Lucas 4 sure! Oops how could I forget Speilberg LOL!
