The Pope denounced the war. Bush was boo'd on the street. I can't believe the Pope saw him and Bush is now calling himself a humanatarian? What's wrong with this picture?

The Pope was wrong to give Bush the world forum that he did. Everyone knows the Pope disapproves of Bush and almost everything he does. I look for him to publicly castigate Bush very soon. You are right, he should not have given him an audience. It is a courtesy that every Pope gives to the US president. It would have been great if he had refused Bush.

By following the example of Christ, the Pope must not exclude anyone from having access to him.

George W. Bush is an avowed Christian and the leader of the world's greatest republic.

Rejection of a Christian brother is hardly a precedent to be made by the leader of the world's largest Christian denomination!

"Hate the sin, but love the sinner"

George W. Bush has already insulated himself from reason.

Why should any world leader like the Pope assist him in this process by refusing to see him?

Behind closed doors, the Pope won't be pulling any punches!

Don't you expect the Pope to be the first person to always practice "truth to power"?

I guess it would have been to much of a slap in the face. Bush is about as Christian as a rock and I'm sure the Pope sees that.

The Pope might oppose the war in Iraq, but he has spoken several times on the dangers of radical Islam. Beyond their agreement that radical Islam is a problem, Bush and the Pope are in agreement on a number of issues like abortion, same sex marriage, AIDS in Africa, sex ed. in schools, etc...

There is more to these men than the war in Iraq. I think some on the left and right only think of the war in Iraq and nothing else.

Why would anyone be disappointed, the Pope was
presenting his side of the argument and asked that a
peaceful resolution be found to avoid these types of
war. Lest you forget, the nation of Islam was furious with
the Pope for his quote out of a 400 year old book, he is
well aware of what the US is facing, yet he still preaches
peace.

Let the picture develop, then it will be clear to you

the Pope is gentelman and a true humanitarian in addition to being a brilliant diplomat. why turn down an offer to speak frankly to the most powerful person (a US president) in the world?

edit:
(this is not necessarily for the asker) im sure some of the same people who say the pope should denounce bush are the same ones who say the pope is being too political when he tells "catholics" like john kerry and rudy guiliani that their support of abortion doesnt jive with their professed catholicism.

Maybe the Pope doesn't suffer from "Bush Derangement Syndrome" and isn't consumed by hatred toward President Bush. The Pope just ain't in the same league as Rosie and Michael Moore,

By seeing him, the Pope had the opportunity to present his views person-to-person and possibly even influence Bush. Refusing to see him would have no possible positive outcomes.

The picture is greatly skewed.

Obviously, the Pope himself is not who you think him to be.

Or, could it be that Bush is not the person you paint him to be?

Attila the Hun came to Rome to conquer it once he sat outside the city ready to sack it and burn it to the ground......pope Leo 1 came and met with him and Attila changed his mind and spared Rome ......perhaps the pope looked back into history and hoped that he could make a difference on another leader with dreams of world conquest
