How can i get more jobs in painting and decorating?

I have started a painting company in Australia? Anyone can advice me the way to find a contracts? what shoul i do and how to advertise?

First of all make sure you have a a very attractive business card and always have lots of them with you.

Place a sign on the side of your truck or van that has your company name, your license number and tells what you do.

Next always have a sign you can place at the job site when you are doing a job, advertising that you are painting the premises etc.

Check out http://www.craigslist.org for the city in Australia nearest you and run an ad for skilled trade in there. It is free and might bring you some business.

Take pictures before and after and start to build a portfolio of your work.

Get letters from customers testifying how much they liked your work and place those in the same portfolio as your pictures.

Whenever you get a job always take some time to go to the neighbours on the block and introduce yourself to them and tell them what you are doing and leave your business card.

Always check back to see that a customer is satisfied and whether there is anything else they need. They talk to their neighbours and friends and these are the best referrals.

Send them a letter of introduction or a marketing flier/brochure describing your services. (You can also try "cold calling" if you have the gift of talk)

You can also do the obvious, place an ad in a newspaper or online classified site like Craigslist. My good friend has been painting for 25 years and he advertises in local papers frequently. Usually he gets some leads. You may also want to introduce yourself to other building contractors such as tilers, roofers, and landscapers. They may have customers who in addtition to tiling, roofing and landscaping services are looking for painting and decorating help.

Whatever you do, remember one important thing!! When advertising ALWAYS talk about the quality and breadth of your skills and NEVER emphasize price. ( If price is the only thing you have to offer you will never win because there is always someone willing to work cheaper) Good luck!!
