Using a 50 cent stamp is overkill as postage for one ounce is only 41 cents. The number of stamps on an envelope, other than for a decorative nature, is irrelevant, but it could lead to the item receiving extra scrutiny during a security scan. Extra postage or extra stamps are sometimes considered a warning that may indicate "Target" mail.

Great question young person!

You could put 10 stamps on the letter and it will get there in the same amount of time.
There are varying rates for postage depending on the amount of time that you want it to take. Priority and Express Mail have been well described in other answers to your question.

Why are there more than one stamp on some pieces of mail that you get? Because postage is based on the weight and size of the item being mailed. If a letter weighs one ounce it will cost 41 cents. But the Postal Service could not possibly charge only 41 cents for a 10 pound package, right? So they must charge a higher fee.
In some instances people may mail a one ounce letter and use 2 or more stamps that add up to 41 cents. They may use a 39 cent stamp and a 2 cent stamp. As long as the number equals 41 cents it is OK to mail it.

there is a price for a first class stamp, that is for one ounce of mail, if the envelope is not a size that will go through the sorting machine you have to put an extra stamp on, it used to be ten cents extra, im not sure if that has changed. if it weighs more than one ounce you need to put more than one stamp on it as well, if it has anything you dont want bent or mangled, like hand made christmas cards i sent out with something glued on that made them thicker you pay an extra fee for hand stamping just like the odd size envelopes. you could have asked your parents, or the post office, or a teacher you know.

the letter won't get to it's destination any faster with one or two stamps. if the letter has two stamps, it's probably because the one stamp is the old price of .39 and the second one would be .02 cent stamp since the price has gone up to .41 cents.

Because the mail weighs more (ex: A card with photos inside) and the postage is extra. So you have to put 2 stamps on it to pay for the extra postage fee.

It does not matter. It gets no special treatment.
