Um. None. Even if he's "friendly" now, once there's another lizard in there, territorial issues will start up, and him being a nile, once he's got some size on his "roommate" it's a meal.

Not a smart idea.

Nope. Monitors shouldn't ever be housed together no matter how tame. Monitors have a feeding response like none other and anything that will fit in their mouth will eventually be viewed as food. I've seen lots of cases of them being housed with other animals for months or years and then one day they either kill each other or one kills and sometimes even eats the other. Never house monitors together but especially not Nile monitors. Tame towards people is much different than an animal being tame towards other animals. It's not like a dog who can sometimes forget it's even a predator. The prey drive never turns off completely even in a perfectly tame monitor.

How big is the enclosure he is in? I once worked in a zoo where the nile monitor had a big pool that was shared by a few red-eared terrapins. The pool was probably 4 feet deep though, and the enclosure room-sized.

The people above are probably right - anything you put in there will eventually become a snack, unless it can easily escape him when he gets 'inquisitive'.

I worked in a pet store for three years so I'm fairly well versed with lizards. While your nile monitor may be 'fairly friendly', they are known for their aggressive temperament. Your little friend can get up to 6 feet long, so even if you did find him a temporary 'friend', he may just decide to eat him for a snack one day.

nothing that lizard will grow 2 metres and can be aggressive to other tankmates could cause cannibalism.

None, anything he can't eat he will eventually kill anyway.
