In the U.S., most citizens are not part of a democracy, so I can't really say.

We have a democracy in a republic, and that means that my votes do not have the final say in any matter, but are rather used only as reference for a smaller number of people who count as the only members of the "democracy".

Your question inspires another question: If a non-democratic country is peaceful and happy, should democracy be forced upon it violently?

I feel there is far too much focus on democracy, when we should be instead focused on bringing education to the world.

Added:

China was once known as the Zhongguo, roughly translated as the "middle kingdom". It was ruled as a monarchy, and the people were all servants to their rulers. The Ming Dynasty alone lasted from 1368-1644, longer than the entire history of the U.S., and involved no major wars. Global trading was introduced, and led to many Chinese inventions being passed on to Europe.

The U.S., on the other hand, has been in battles for most of its short 231 years. It's the only country to have used a nuclear weapon on people, and by history should be considered one of the most violent countries, if you estimate deaths per year due to violence.

History is amazing. You should open a book.
