There was this clerk who was checking out an elderly lady at the Kmart where we live. The clerk had her arm in a sling from an accident she had been in the previous week. The customer reached across the counter and struck the cashier and yelled at her to hurry up because she was slow. I think people are freaking nuts nowdays. The manager called the store security over to the register and ask the cashier if she wanted to call the police and have the woman arrested for hitting her. But the cashier said she felt sorry for the elderly woman, and she didn't want her arrested.

I used to be a cashier at Walmart, which the pay sucked. You are overworked and underpayed. I get negative customers all the time. The positive customers inspired me to work at that job longer.
One time a customer almost made me cry because my check out lane was only 10 items or less and it looked like he had more than that. I said "Sir, this lane is only 10 item or less. How many do you have in there?". And then he blew his horn and started yelling at me because he was an impatient bastard. And he was all like "Blah blah blah blah...if it wasn't for us customers you wouldn't be getting paid!!!" Then he asked to speak to a manager and started complaining about me in front of my face to the manager, saying that I should be replaced or something. Then after the manager left, the customer apologized to me and started yapping again. Walmart should pay their cashiers better.

No, but on the 3 occasions that I received horrible service and/or a rude cashier & sales person, I politely walked away and the reported her name to the store manager (twice by phone from home). I always take the non-confrontational way out.
And also reported to managers - excellent cashiers/sales people who deserved the kudos so their bosses now they are great employees.

not yelled, but I got short with someone once.
I gave her a $20 for a bottle of pop, she gave me a $5 and a few $1. I told her she didn't give me the right change. She argued and cursed under her breath about it. Said that I gave her a $10. I said she was wrong, she said I couldn't prove it! They ended up closing out her drawer and counting her money to see if she was over .. and guess what... she was! by $10! what a waste of time.

I have no clue with what's up with that kind of person. I cannot fathom why people wreak so much anger onto customer service people.
It is extremely rude, and shows a side of that person's personality that I bet they wouldn't want their friends to see.
You can tell a lot from a person by how they treat people in the customer service departments.

I never yelled at a cashier, but I've sure had the customers yell at me!!! I think cashiers get blamed for everything, even though it's not our fault. One good example is when this customer yelled at me when her card was expired and I guess it was my fault the bank didn't send her a new one. And that is a true story!!!

I'm ashamed to say yes.
Last week, I used some of the new WASHINGTON DOLLAR coins to make a purchase and the teen behind the counter said, "we only accept American money". I said look at it. it says $1. It says IN GOD WE TRUST on the edge. It's got WASHINGTON's FACE ON IT!!!! She said, I don't think this is real. She called her manager to ask him if they could accept it.
I lost my cool and yelled, "Maybe if you'd stop watching AMERICAN IDOL or the REAL WORLD long enough to read a newspaper or watch the news, you'd have heard about these. They came out in February."
Manager came out and said, yes, it's real AMERICAN money.
I feel bad about yelling at her now.

No.. my kid is a cashier. Sometimes people give her a very hard time. Not her fault that the prices are going up.

Yes because I have been on for 20 years and I have seen some people who can't even count change correctly and its one of the easiest jobs is to be a cashier and I can't stand people who are lucky to have an easy job and still can't manage it.
