It's a friend. When my conscience is bothering me, I have to sometimes examine it to see why. The reason isn't always readily apparent.
I definitely have to listen to it, if my conscience is uneasy, then all is not right with the world until I can ascertain why, and make amends.

...I only hear from my conscience when it's kicked into "foe mode" to tell me I'm in the wrong or avoid a certain situation, etc....I listen most of the time

Well, it tells me what to do, and what's right.
So it's more like a friend, it tells me what's
right and what I should've done, or should do.
Then again, I'll listen to it and be wrong, meaning
I should've trusted my friends or my heart.
So mainly it's my friend, but it can be a foe.

A little of both. It keeps me out of trouble and keeps me from hurting others. However, it holds me back from many things out of fear of embarrassment.
