I don't know if this makes a sport overrated, but money often makes it not fun to watch. Case in point: NCAA March Madness is A LOT more interesting than San Antonio-Cleveland match-up, even with King James.
The same is sort of true about football, although the NFL is still the best thing on TV.

Most sports are not overrated, only in the minds of those who don't like a particular sport for whatever reason.
I was a competitive swimmer (year around) growing up, that sport kept me active, kept me healthy, and helped me make friends growing up. I wouldn't call swimming overrated because of what it's done for myself, and others who've been involved with it.
You may wonder why I brought that up. I wanted to remind you that sports is more than just what you see on TV with the professional leagues and the big time players who constantly make the news on ESPN.
Think about all of the people who played a recreational sport as a kid (most likely little league baseball or softball) or sports in high school and college. I think for a lot of people playing some kind of sport was significant to them growing up at one point or another.
There also just happen to be those that are talented, dedicated, and lucky enough to become pro-athletes. Some let money and fame go to their heads, others keep their heads down to earth. You know, the athletes you enjoy watching them play when you turn on baseball, football, basketball, etc.
