What is the difference between Mind and Soul?

Mind exists. Same is the fact in case of Soul.Or otherwise! Could anyone put some light on it?

Actually, neither are physiologically found in the body. A brain and mind are two different things. The heart and soul are two different things as well. Language has become laxed and the words are used improperly, that is the reason for the confusion.

The terms 'Soul' and 'Mind' are not equivalent. There are a number of minor distinctions between the concepts which, taken by themselves, could be regarded simply as trivial doctrinal differences. However, there are also two major philosophical differences which separate the concepts of mind and soul into different ontological categories.

In standard Christian theology, the soul is an individual entity which is totally separate from other souls and (can become) totally separate from God. There is thus one God (or maybe three depending on how you interpret the Trinity) and a plurality of souls. Every person has exactly one soul.

Buddhist philosophers are wary of applying the concept of number to God(s) or mind(s). At a conventional level, we may indeed refer to the mind of a sentient being, but what we are actually talking about is a series of instances of awareness. The mental continuum of every sentient being is ultimately inseparable from the mental continuum of the Buddha(s), and thus from the mental continuum of all other sentient beings (Hence the Buddhist emphasis on compassion and exchanging self with others) .

The fundamental problem in trying to use numbers to describe or categorise mind(s) is that mind has ontological precedence over number. In other words, number is a conceptual tool generated by mind. Numbers have no existence other than as objects of mind(s). It is thus difficult to see how numbers can be employed to delimit mind(s).

These ideas are not totally foreign to Christian metaphysics.

In the eastern way of thinking , they say, that the Soul is the eternal traveller passing through the various life cycles. This eternal traveller occupies a body in a particular birth. Like my earthly body this particular soul in me is occupying.....

It is believed that this soul gets purified again and again , untill it is totally free from any births. It gets released from the Birth-Death cycle.

Mind , on the other hand , is a part of the human birth, like the body. It is also the invisible part of the body.. It is this mind that involves the humans in the various attractions of the earth, thus distracting the soul from its chosen part. The constant seeking of pleasure and desires of the mind sows the seed for the next birth and we ( it is said) we carry forward those unfullfilled desires to the next birth.

This considerably slows the soul in its search for meging with the creator.

Soul does not carry the body and the mind . But it carries the unfulfilled desires to the next birth.

Well, to go by the dictionary, the mind is the element, part, substance, or process that reasons, thinks, feels, wills, perceives, judges, etc in a human or other conscious being. It generally implies intellect or understanding, as distinguished from the faculties of feeling and willing; intelligence. Psychology defines it as the totality of conscious and unconscious mental processes and activities.
Soul on the other hand is the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans, regarded as a distinct entity separate from the body, and commonly held to be separable in existence from the body; the spiritual part of humans as distinct from the physical part. It is the spiritual part of humans regarded in its moral aspect, or as believed to survive death and be subject to happiness or misery in a life to come. It is the disembodied spirit of a deceased person or the emotional part of human nature; the seat of the feelings or sentiments, high-mindedness; noble warmth of feeling, spirit or courage, etc.
Your mind is your brain, your logic, your reason, while your soul is the animating principle; the essential element or part of something, the inspirer or moving spirit of some action, movement, etc. The word 'mind' has a rational connotation, while the word 'soul' carries a moral significance. The mind dies with the person, but the soul is believed to be immortal.

Mind is one of the tools of the soul. Mind is assumed self whereas Soul is true Self. Mind is Soul's window to material, physical world but it also can be used to know Self, look within through the Window.

Our life is a battle between our Mind and Soul.
We can be successful on this earth if the Mind wins in that battle.
We can be successful in our eternal life, if the soul wins in that battle.

You are riding on the correct side of the road according to the rules. At the same time a child is moving on the wrong side on the road on your path. 'You can hit the child, you cannot be offended. You are on the correct side according to the rules'- This is the statement of the Mind.
'Even if you are in the correct side, you can save the child by applying brakes. Don't hurt the child'-This is the statement of the Soul.
If you allow the soul to win over this battle, you can de happy on earth as well as in your eternal life.
Read this as well,
You are in the examination hall, u are thorough in the portions. A classmate of yours ask for the answer.
'Help him, he is you friend'- This is the statement of your Soul.
'No don't help him. Then he will not have the seriousness to study for the c exams to come'- This is the statement of you Mind.
Here you have to allow your Mind to win over the battle. Even though it may cause a little bitterness between you and your friend initially, this will make your friend to study seriously thereafter.
Thus you can win the whole War of life!
AND SO WE HAVE TO ACT ACCORDING TO OUR MIND AND SOUL IN ACCORDANCE TO THE REQUIREMENT OF THAT MOMENT TO LEAD A BETTER LIFE BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER OUR DEATH.

Mind is one of the media to brain for functioning, where as the "Soul" is complete in it, the absence of which would result in cessation of all the organs' activities, on other side ineffectiveness of mind soul would yet exist in the body.

Friend while you are lost in an cat od seeing or Reading etc you concentrate on that and your mind is there fully.Similarly while you lost in that good book, you failed to notice your Friend's entry and failed to hear your wife or the voice of some one who talked to you .You say, Sorry my mind was else where, in the book.Excuse me.

So there is an AGENCY in you that CAN SAY THAT YOUR MIND WAS ELSE WHERE.What is THAT?
