Depends on the size of the mother and size of the child. I have a small frame...first child weighed 6.13 (no pain) and second child was 8.10 (Oh the pain!) But it does not last. Once you see your child...it was all worth it!

It is completely worth it but yeah it is not a comfortable thing to deal with. If you have concerns talk to your doctor. Some doctors like to do epidurals and give medications to help whereas some do not like to give drugs of any sort.
I have often described birth as the most amount of pain you can have and live through. However I had a doctor that did not like to give out drugs. LOL...
So, if someone had an all natural birth and didnt feel a thing.. I am totally JEALOUS! However, i do not think that is possible at all.
If you are scared, talk to your doctor. Discuss your options, etc. Make sure he knows you want to feel as little as possible.
The upside is that you are so focused on bringing a child into the world, you really do not worry about it and when you are giving birth you cannot stop it, it is to late. So it comes regardless of whether you are ready or not.
After you hold that precious child you have no problem bringing another into the world.. because you know, it was worth it!

LOL. My wife asked if your friends mom was unconscious during it.
Yes, it hurts. Why do you think a lost of women have a epidural or a block. Even then, you feel tremendous pressure and pulling, etc. The baby coming through the canal is ripping part, or the doctor will cut, a line along the uterus to make room for the baby's head coming out.
There is one psycological trick to it, that doctor's know. As soon as the baby is delivered, the doc will show the baby to the mom, and let her hold it. In that way, she forgets the pain almost instantly, looking at the beauty of what grew in her for nine months.
Bill Cosby said it best: the pain of giving birth is equivalent to taking your bottom lip and pulling it over the top of your head. LOL.

It depends in the person I think. My husbands cousin was taught how to breathe and she had her baby naturally with no drugs or anything. She said she had no pains. She was only in labor for about 3 hours. When your body is tense thats when you feel the contractions and have more pain. Her Midwife taught her how to breathe very well. Even if your forehead is scrunched up then your whole body is tense and your muscles are too. As for me, I had my baby on May 27th 2007. My water broke at 3:00AM. Once your water breaks theres no cushion there anymore so when a contraction hits its intense. Once I got the epidural I felt ABSOLUTLY nothing. They told me I would feel pressure of the baby as she was coming out. But I didnt even feel that. I got her out with 2 contractions and 6 pushes. Labor isnt bad at all. It was so easy! The hard part if the after birth. Thats what sucks.

it is a pain that you can not compare to anything else in life. but when it's done, it's all worth it, as soon as they place the baby in your hands, it's a miracle and very very emotional time. My first child, my daughter was overdue, had not even dropped so had to be induced.. was long hard wicked labor, did get an epidural but did not help at all.. only went down my legs lol.. is supposed to work but times too when it does not work properly. My second child was my son and actually went into labor for him, contractions can be overwhelming just concentrate on your breathing and focus on something in the room .. for my son it was natural, well other than some laughing gas they gave me, but i was not laughing!!!! more like near hyperventalating hahaha. do not worry too much, you will be fine and have some good stories to tell when it's all done. Good luck and congrats.

Then your friends mom must have smoked crack right before she gave birth. There is no pain on earth to compare to natural child birth (gave birth to 2 out of 3 children without ANY drugs).......Let me try to describe the feeling for you. The contractions~Take 4 Ex-lax (the stimulant laxative), and then no matter HOW bad your have to go, don't, for 12 hours. The cramps that you will be experiencing are about HALF the pain of contractions. Now, after 12 hours of those cramps, take a watermelon and stick it in your vagina.....The tearing of skin, is completely NORMAL so don't worry. That is close to the pain but not quite as bad as the real thing=0) Let us know how you did!! Good luck!

Yes having a baby really hurts. Pregnancy sucks, you get sick, your body changes and gets sore, your tired all the time and you gain weight. Labor hurts, giving birth hurts and afterward you have to breast feed which hurts. And something no one ever tells you, the first poop you take afterward hurts, and for about 3 weeks everyone you take hurts. Sleep deprivation hurts. And life sucks for a while after you have the baby. Anyone who tells you differently is lying to you. Don't have a baby till you think your really ready and then wait for 6 months afterward to make sure your really committed to this life changing experience

She probably felt something. Maybe she just doesn't want to scare you. But contractions are like the worst cramps you'll ever have, and actually pushing the baby out stretches something that's normally smaller than a lemon to about the size of a bowling ball...yeah, if you don't feel SOMETHING...you're on some good drugs.

Well she must have been on drugs. Think about it you are pushing something the size of a watermelon through a hole the size of a lemon. And its not a straight line there is a bend to get them around. Trust me it will hurt - alot. But it is true what they say it really it is all worth it.

everyone is different when it comes to that...i had my second with no pain meds...pushed 4 times and here he was...my first they did two epidurals, neither one took so i technical felt it all...8 pushes he came out. It has more to do with your pain tolerance than anything. even with pain meds i hear it feels about the same. I am not going to lie to you, it really is not the most pleasant feeling in the world, and yes it does hurt alot, but you will get through it fine. my great grandma was Indian and she said that her people always said...momma cats have their kittens purring...you go in there, calmly have the baby and they will come fast..you go in there and show out...scream, hollar...etc..that baby will take forever...

It is very different with every child. My first boy did not really hurt... You feel an urge to push, that is why these delivering ladies scream... because something makes them nervous and aware and pushy. I guess it's adrenaline, it would make sense.
Indeed... delivery itself doesn't hurt that much because you are full of adrenaline. Contractions do, but not quite that much. What makes you tired is the hours of them.
