see I have an interview coming up this week for the post office as a casual clerk/carrier. I was wondering since I have kids maybe I could work at night to reduce baby sittting costs. Now, I am not even sure if its a 24 hour thing at the post office, I would think because there is no way they get all that work done during the day. Thanks for you answers and prosper.

They have mail sorters working 24/7. I'm sure there are other night jobs available, but I know a guy who just sits and works the sorting machine at night. You do have to be fast and accurate but the pay is great and the benefits are super, far better than most of the private sector. He got in by working as a temp when there were no openings available.

If you are interviewing as a casual clerk/ carrier than it will be a day time job only. They have special centers that do the sorting and they tend to be 24 hour. At the larger city post offices they may have you come in a little early or stay late to finish sorting the mail for the carriers.

If you are a casual you will pretty much be asked to work when they want you to, not when it's desirable for you. You will probably have to work a six day week, especially if you are carrying mail.
In my office the casuals come in after 9:00AM and work until about 4:00PM or 6:00PM, depending on the assignment for the day. There are no night hours.
