McQueen, hands down. The guy was coolness personified. Newman's good, but when it comes to coolness factor, he's no McQueen. Plus, Steve raced motorcycles; which is way cooler than Newman racing cars.

I thought Steve McQueen...especially in The Blob,and also The Great Escape! Paul Newman is okay I suppose...I like his Salad Dressing's!

Papillon. Paul Newman could never have pulled off this roll. A great performance by Mcqueen that is better than anything Newman ever did.

first of all, i'm not the "who's better than" type--i don't even watch the Oscars because the whole competitive thing is counterproductive to me.
that aside, for every excellent performance exhibiting cool of one of these guys, i can look at the other's body of work and pick out a performance that was just as good.
two fantastic actors--coolness personified. unfortunately they only appeared together in one film,Towering Inferno, i believe. our loss.

James Dean. He began the finished denims and T-shirt look, and you won't be able to deny that the photograph of him in denims and white T, status with one leg against the wall is cool :) And besides that he became an exceptionally proficient actor besides. pushed to get to his objective.
