It has become apparent in America that regardless of the kind of how safe the neighborhood actually is, black people drive down property value. How do you see the situation?

Hmmm...tuff call.
The ideal would be to live in a mixed neighborhood where everyone had respect for everyone else.
From what I see around me, I guess that's out....

Honestly, I live in the deep south, and there is alot of anger still between the races here, unfortunately. I don't understand it at all, but I have seen for myself that it goes both ways. A black friend of mine has actually warned me that there are places where I should not go, since a white woman alone in those places would not be safe. That is very sad.
There are places, too, where she would not be safe. That is also very sad.
Our friendship has drawn anger from both of our families and friends. That is really very sad...
There is some reason, here, at least, why black neighborhoods become slum areas. I was a major voice, along with some other friends, a few years back, to get the city to put Christmas decorations up in the black neighborhood. Believe me, there was some stiff opposition to this idea, but we kept lobbying for it, and we did wind up getting our way. The city was about to buy more Christmas decorations to replace the old ones, which had worn out.
Anyway, they put the new decorations up...but they didn't last out the season. Vandals either tore them apart, or stole them completely.
Since then, I have kept my big yankee foot out of my southern belle mouth......

EDIT:
To clarify, I grew up in upstate New York, not that my family was not racist...it just wasn't as rampant as here...
Also, I don't live in an actual "city" but in a very small town. The lines here are very clearly drawn, but they are, praise God, beginning to blur, just a bit. I do have hope...

I have found that that's true only if the whites in that neighborhood sell out because of fear that their property will lose value. In areas where the whites hold the line and don't give in to panic, the values of the property do not go down. We had this problem in the neighborhood where I had my first house. After the first blakc family moved in, we, the neighbors, decided to NOT sell out, and the neighborhood is still stable, almost 40 years later! It's a pleasant mix of upper middle class blacks and whites of all religions.

Yes I drive down property values. On purpose, just to get at the white man.
