Many stores are the same across the country - from Sears and Walmart, Home Depot to Foot Locker. Grocery stores, however, seem to be regional and different in each area. Why is this?

They are different because they cater to the needs of the neighborhood.

They are different, because some grocery stores don't like stretching out their service very far, because it can get complicated to handle. Also, a lot of grocery stores aren't open 24/7, so there are different grocery stores made in each area which serve you 24 hours, 7 days a week.
