I'm considering getting the Epiphone LD Les Paul Special II electric guitar to begin with. I've read on several websites that it's a great starter guitar (as well as an overall guitar) and so, it's my top candidate. And on top of that, the reviews for this guitar are very good.

Now, my problem is that I'm unfimiliar with amplifiers. What kind of amp would be good with this guitar? My budget for the amp is 100-150 USD.

I found this guitar-amp pack on musiciansfriend.com :

But then I read on another website that buying a *guitar-amp pack* isn't a good idea and that you're better off buying them seperate.

What would be the best decision?

If you are just starting off then go ahead and get a guitar amp pack. At your level of expereince, anyhting is good to start off. it will be some time before you can develop the ear to beable to distinguish the subtle differences between celestion vintage speakers or anyother typpes of speakers. My suggestion is to get what you can and over time develop your own taste. The players with some of the heaviest sounding distortion (dimebag and hammet) plyaed entirely different setups. Its all a matter of getting what you want. But for now just get what you can.

For beginning i would suggest either the Fender Squier Strat Pack or the Epiphone Les Paul II All Access Amp Pack. I personally bought the Strat pack when I first started playing. Before you buy one or the other, go to a local music shop (Guitar Center for example) and try out both and see which one you like better, seeing they are pretty similar in price. They both come with an amp, strap, picks, guitar and tuner.

ok the the guitar amp pack that you picked is semi good
the guitar is ok eventhough i would not recommend a epiph. les paul for a begginer
anyways the epiphone amp sucks with that guitar amp pack
but anyway epiphone does not make good amps at all
i suggest getting a fender, peavey or marshall amp
15w or higher

this pack i recommend(link in the source)
comes with good amp
good guitar (for beginners)
better than the Les paul amp pack in my opinion
and its the same price basically

o ya and the squier strat. comes with a whammy bar incase you wanna mess around with whammy bar stuff

but in the end its your desicion

Marshall makes a good-sounding solid state amplifier for under $100

A roland cube or a peavey rage, if you want a semi-better sound than the cheap thing that comes in the starter pack.

The problem you face isn't buying them seperately, it's that your price range for an amp is so narrow, there isn't much you could get for it.

I'd look into Peavey.
