kickoffs are more line drive, but on punts you have more pressure on you and you need more awareness. also more defenders around you and closer. you also have less blockers so you get less yards. the punt also comes down very fast so it is even harder to catch after all that pressure.

Punts are harder to catch, unless you are taking onside kickoffs into account, in that case the onside kick is the most difficult kick to catch.
I have found from my experience that the "free" kick after a safety is a difficult kick to catch and return because the ball is flying as from a punt but you are in your kick off formation and the ball will typically hang longer and be shorter than a kickoff.

Punts - your mind is the defensive players coming right at you, and whether or not you should call fair catch or let the punt go and get away from it, etc.

Punts because there are not as many blockers for the punt returner.

Punts, the wind blows them around and they pop up a lot higher than kicks.

i think punts are harder to return but to answer your question..... kickoffs are harder to catch cause whenrver they kick it off it is flipping so fast unlike a punt is spinning....

Punts, due to lack of blockers and the hang time, that ball is really moving when it comes down!
