No fish should go in a 20 gallon with an oscar to be honest. The Oscar alone will be too much fish for that tank before long if he's not already. An Oscar really needs a 55 gallon tank minimum as an adult.

First of all your tank isn't going to be big enough for an adult Oscar (as Magic Man pointed out). Second, if you had a bigger tank (55 gal or larger) there are a few fish who will hold their own with an Oscar. My brother had a pair of Oscars in a 90 gal tank with Pleco and a Jack Dempsy. They all got along fine. Mainly because the tank provided plenty of space for the fish. So to answer your question, you should not put any other fish in your 20 gal tank with your Oscar and you should be planning to up-size your tank in the near future.

Eek! Oscars are really cool fish but they are very, very aggressive and will eat almost anything that swims ... even other smaller oscars! So, really your best bet is more oscars of the same size ... and be prepared to watch the oscars outgrow your 20 gallon tank! I bought one when I was a young boy and eventually I took him back to the pet store and traded him in for better group fish. The pet store owner can make recommendations. Have fun! Keeping an aquarium is work, but sitting in front of it is better than meditation!!!

I am sorry but your tank is way too small for even that oscar. If you get a 75 gallon tank, you can add a couple silver dollars. But if you want ot even keep the oscar, get at least a 50 gallon tank and super powerful filter. Good luck!

We used to have an Oscar and the only fish we could put in with them was, arowanas, and pocoscumos, which is an algae eating fish..Oscars are very aggressive and will eat anything smaller than them.. I believe at one time we had a couple of Jack Dempsey's in, they are aggressive too. When young we fed them guppies, then on to gold fish as they grew...They grow according to aquarium size...they are personality fish and are very friendly to the hand who feeds them...When a stranger enters the room you will see that they will go to the bottom and turn a different color...As soon as they see their owners, they swim to the top of tank and seem to be ecstatic...We loved our Oscar but he became the victim of fish tail rot which is quite common. Its quite treatable if caught early..We didn't know what it was, and didn't get it treated in time...So read up before you buy, cause their like owning a dog....Need alot of care..By the way a 20 gallon is not big enough...50 and and up is best.

20 UK gallon is half the required size for a single Oscar. They grow extremely fast and are extremely messy. At about 1 year old in a suitable tank an Oscar is like a house brick with fins.

LOL...ok, that DID make me laugh.
The only thing you can put in a tank with an oscar is food fish.
Oscars will kill anything that they think can fit in their mouths and sometimes things that don't fit.
I have know several people who tried having a few oscars to start with, only to eventually have only one left.
Some say agressive fish like jack dempseys can be but I do know that the bigger the oscar gets, the more tank space it demands!!!! Best to have only one and I do hope you intend on having a HUGE fish tank and a budget to support it's appitite. good luck

They should be kept by themselves, so you shouldn't add any other fish in there. If you're thinking of getting another oscar, don't. You should buy them all at the same time. And by the way, you should have at least a 50 gallon tank for one oscar.
