How many energy is required for the decomposition of 5.0 g of H20 (l) at 1 atm and 25 C into its gaseous elements, given the following reaction:

H2(g) + 1/2 O2 (g) ----> H20 (l) enthalpy = -286 KJ

The heat value of -286 KJ is the energy per mole. Divide the 5.0 g by the molecular mass of water and you have the moles. Multiply by the heat pe mole and you are done.
