No, it's not illegal per se, but it's almost always a violation of university policy, which can sometimes-but-not-always - depending on how messy the situation is - get the female professor fired.
Oh, yes, to add, it is definitely grounds for firing if you're still in her class and she hasn't given you a grade yet because you two are on unequal footing - that is, she has more power than you. And any romantic relationship in academia with a power differential is a no-no.

Only for academic purposes.
If the student is of legal age, it is not illegal. But, it may be against the School's policy and the professor may get into trouble or fired. Not sure about the student.

No, but keep in mind that most FEMALE (note spelling) professors are not the least bit interested in their students. I've never had one I would look twice at.

as long as you are both of age, then it's not illegal. but it might be against the university's rules-- the professor may have said that she wouldn't have affairs w/ students.
but in general, i would wait until after i was out of the professor's class, so there's no conflict of interest.

Its not illegal if you are 18 or older. It is however unethical if you in one of her classes. If you are honestly interested in her, I'd approach her after you have completed the class and have a grade recorded. Even then, don't be surprised if she turns you down.
