i bought the micro sd card, and the data cable that wasnt included initially with the phone. i connected the phone to the computer with the cable, and windows doesnt recognize the device. any tips?

Bitpim is a program for somewhat advanced users that can potentially ruin your phone for good if you dont know what youre doing. check out this tutorial on cingular forums they have been the best source for my questions about the cu500

You'll need to download BitPim so that you can transfer music files to the phone. Head over to http://www.bitpim.org/ to get it for free.
