She broke the law. That's what happens and happens for everyone. The only difference is you wouldn't have been let out for crying.

Total cost to prosecute a case of that nature with a normal person is around $30,000. That being said, there were additional expenditures incurred in this case, mostly revolving around security and barricading to prevent papparazi from completely overrunning the courthouse. I would estimate that the total cost for Hilton's probation violation would be in the neighborhood of 65-70k.

All of which is, honestly, moot. She committed not one but 2 probation violations before she was finally brought back into court. She then proceeded to waste the court's time using a defense of her being too important to have to spend the time to learn her own legal status (blaming her PR rep for not keeping track of the status of her license and whether she could drive or not--in spite of the fact that she was photographed driving TWO DAYS after her DUI plea and license suspension). Furthermore, she was convicted of a crime that stands a reasonable chance of severely injuring or killing an innocent individual(s). A "normal" person would get a sentence of 90 days incarceration under these circumstances.

What will really bake your noodle is that, thanks to Paris's attempt to get out of serving her time by having a private shrink come in and claim that she was too unstable to be in jail, the state will now be footing the bill for her "psychiatric care", as she is technically a ward of the state right now and the state is responsible for her medical needs. Thusly, her stay will cost approximately four times that of a normal inmate, all because she tried to circumvent the system and now the state has to proceed as though she really DOES have psychological needs beyond that of a normal inmate and requires 24 hour care, even though we all know she doesn't.

EDIT AFTER THE FACT: Poster below stated that Paris paid the court costs, which covers the tab. This is *wrong*. Paris paid the ADMINISTRATIVE costs (that's court costs in a sentencing agreement), not the cost of prosecution, judge's time, usage of the courtroom, police presence, diverted police cars, etc.

Her fine was $1,500, part of which will go to fund state-sponsored substance abuse programs. Her court costs probably ran in the neighborhood of $2,000, which covers the cost of paper and the transcriber of court proceedings.

A lot of money were spent by taxpayers to pay the law enforcement personnel to put Paris Hilton in jail but her money talks louder and it was the reason that she was released ahead of time which was unfair to others who were similarly situated.

If she kills somebody the next time she decides to drive drunk, how much will it cost then?

Hilton paid a fine and court costs. That covers the entire tab.
