Are you interpeting his lack of ambitions by actions he is not taking or actions he is taking? Remember that a non action can be an action in itself. He probably wants to become a wandering hobo for the same reasons I did and many others might. Because he sees the system he is living in as flawed and doesnt want to take any part of it. One way you could go about helping him is to show him in a very logical way (in writing) that being homeless dont removed him from the system and can infact decress his ability to help change it. I would say to this person I am here to help you anyway I can without harming my own goals in life. I will help you to feel like you are more enabled to help others and yourself in any way I can to the best of my abilitys. ONLY say these things if you really mean them. If you dont then I suggest you not think of what is wrong with him and think more of whats wrong with you possibly?

He obviously doesn't live in the real world. Let him go be a hobo. He'll be running back to mommy and daddy VERY soon after he gets a dose of what it's really like.

Probably urbanitis with regional claustrophobia; he's sick of the people he knows or sees and wants to see something other than concrete under his feet. There is such a society, but the life is fraught with many dangers.

Not all people can be equally as ambitious. Some people are good at putting themselves (and in fact want to be in) in high-stress situations and can emotionally and mentally handle it - like the pain threshold - and others can't. You need to watch the Big Lebowski to truly understand what I mean. Continue being his friend, if he's not dangerous or a criminal. He certainly can't harm anyone just by being lazy!!!!

Nothing really. It's presumptuous to assume that everyone would have the same goals such as wealth, fame, success, etc.

Your disapproval of his choices in life is likely to affect your friendship with him.

Does he have dark skin?.
Does he ASSUME his ancestors were slaves?
Does he ASSUME all light-skinned people were slave owners?
Does he speak Ebonics?
Does he have a photo of Jackson or Masters on his wall?
If YES to all of the above, then he is normal.
