well basiclly most agencies are looking for something different that stands out and something they never seen before. really they want something that can easily catch someone's eye and be noticed. that does'nt mean it has to be colorful or crazy.

The actor's photo has NOTHING to do with what an agent seeks. The photo is a non-issue. If the agent does not like the photo he/she will tell the actor he has to get new headshots, at the actor's expense. Talent Agents do NOT judge the actor they want to represent by his/her photo. It is too superficial and no can determine how well an actor peforms by looking at a photograph!
Talent agents look at their current client list to see if there actor types they need on their list. Do they need a Broadway actress with a great Broadway Belt voice?
Do they need someone that does character voices?
Do they need a strong VoiceOver actor? Do they need someone strong in film Industrials? Do they need someone strong in Live Corporate Industrials? Do they need a Spokesperson?
Do they need a strong dramatic actor or strong, comedic actor for film/television? They look at the school where the actor graduated university. The best University with strong theater departments are important. The better the University's Theater Department, the better the chance of getting a top agency to represent you. The productions in which the actor has performed, the lead roles in which she/he performed. The acting school where the actor trained.
When they receive actor headshots/resumes, if they see an actor they can use, they invite him or her for an audition.
The quality of the actor's body of work, is what impresses him/her. If you have only appeared in school productions, you will more than likely, NOT get an Talent Agent in a major city. If you are serious about acting, you must continue to develop your training by performing in Community and or Regional Theater. Always focus on booking the LEAD ROLE! If one lives in a non-metropolitian area, the information will be very different for the city in the USA where you live.
