He keeps changing colors and I don't know what they mean. He REALLY doesn't like the water filter and that kinda worries me...he won't let me put it in. And the guy at the pet store said to feed him flake food. But it said they eat krill? Or something? Shrimp? But I don't know where to get them or how to grow them. Ahh I'm so confused!!!

They don't eat flake food, they need to be in water with a good amount of sea salt in it, and if you put them in a new tank that hasn't been cycled, they'll probably not last very long because they're very sensitive to ammonia in the water.

ADDITION: They can eat shrimp from the supermarket if need be, but they also need to have shrimp with the shells on, or snails because their teeth form a beak that needs to be worn down, otherwise they get to a point where they can't feed. Then they either need to go to a vet and be put under an anesthetic and have the teeth filed down, or they die. Puppers are fairly aggressive, and this only gets worse over time, so they shouldn't be kept with other fish. And because of their size as adults and general intolerance of poor water quality, they should have at least a 30 gallon tank for a home.

NEVER listen to what people at pet stores tell you - most are only out to make a sale, and once you figure out that what they tell you is wrong, and you've gotten attached to the fish they make another sale so you can get what you should have in the first place!

A green spotted pufferfish is hard to take care of! Most beginners will actually kill it. I had one once...it died. But I wised up a little bit and got another. It lived for Lol. They are rude and nasty to other fish. You're right about flake food; They don't like it. It should be fed live and frozen foods. I fed mine brine shrimp, blood worms and shellfish (for example cockle). Shellfish are an important part of their diet because it's what they naturally eat. It needs salty water; but fresh is ok it just won't be as healthy and grow that fast. Puffers like a tank with crevices and caves. Try using bogwood and rock and you will have a happy fish who will spend most of the day searching around the tank. Oh and your fish is probably unhealthy or stressed if it is changing colors. If it is pale then it's definately stressed. It needs help.

Green Spotted Puffers WILL want brackish water, and finally, complete marine stipulations. The Bettas won't do good in brackish stipulations, however the Mollies could be ultimate! If you acquired a ten gallon tank, you would mounted a freshwater tank with the three-five feminine Bettas, a tuition (five-7, relying on dimension) Tetras, and a couple of backside dwellers (Cories, Kuhli Loaches, Dwarf Chain Loaches, and so forth.).

i had one of these guys 4 a while there really cool . if hes real dark you probably need to add some aquarium salt to the water. they live in brackish water. half fresh half salt water . the krill and salt you can get from walmart or a local fish store walmarts probably cheaper. make sure you get aquarium salt table salt wont work it ll actually kill em. if you can find some small snails he ll love you forever the snails also keep their beaks in check.also google green spotted or figure 8 puffer care . good luck!!
