i think the books went along that line too. i read somewhere that the first two books were actually childrens books, so obvioulsy they werent gonna be all dark. but the immense popularity of harry potter grew that the author made the stories more dark to have everykind of reader like it. thats why shes a trazzilionaire.

Yes. They changed directors. Chris Columbus had a kiddier, more commercial, and more "magical" style. Alfonso Cuaron (3, Children of Men ) and Newell (sp?) 4 (and four wedding and a funeral) are darker and deeper naturally. Also, JK released the books over about ten years or so and wanted her fans to grow up with them. As the story progressed, the characters got more developed and layered, and the plot thickened. As more dark secrets are revealed and Harry gets older (remember in 1 and 2, he was 11 and 12), the books grow with him. So too should the movies. Plus, in 4 Voldy comes back.
Expect 5 to be darker still, especially if you've read the book. It deals with issues like death and a little politics. The number 5 director said that he would like to put the emotion and character development from the books onto the screen. He said that what the lord of the rings movies have that Potter doesn't is: a more spiritual experience. He is also going to direct movie 6.

They are darker. Mostly this is because of the styles of directors change. The Third was way darker than the Fourth, even if the books were not. The third and fourth books are much darker though. I wish the movies would stick with the 'dark' feel of the Third movie. It;s brilliant! Harry Potter finally got it to the world that magic is not a fun thing! Yes, and since they follow the books they will get even darker. You should sit down and read all the books, it will give a great new aspect of Harry Potter and you will learn some things not shown in the movies.

Yes, they were very much darker, both in light and in tone, because the books have gotten darker and deeper. Harry Potter began as a misunderstood boy sent to a school, and has since gone down into the depths of a troubled psyche fighting to survive. Apparently Rowling wanted it that way.

The scenery in the movies - the darkness filtering - was used to encompass the whole darker tone of the story as the series moves along.

Well, yes, they're much darker, because the books are darker. Get used to it, because they get darker and darker as they go.

i think it was part three that prior to release they warned people might be too much for kids to stand. It got a pg-13 rating.

Part 4 was a joke.. Stupid, Boring, and totaly skipped half the book.
