i am a 22 year old black woman as well, and i have lived in Houston all my life... and as far as the dating scene in Houston, well it all depends on what type of guy you are looking for. Houston is a big city with a pretty decent urban social scene, so you can find almost any kind of guy here, from black guys to white guys to serious guys to guys that are low down dogs!! like in any city, be careful and be patient, and when the right guy comes, you'll know! in the meantime, there are A LOT of guys that you can and will meet in Houston, you just gotta go out (not even just downtown or in the clubs, you can meet guys at happy hour, the galleria, the park, the zoo, the sidewalk.... there's so many things you can do here and there are so many people!) and interact... you'll be fine ;-) gOoD LuCk!!

Single Black Dating

Well girlfriend join the "moving to Houston" crowd. I'm so excited. I am from Denver and the large amount of snow and inter-racial dating here is driving me crazy. I don't ski or hike and the mountains are wasted on me. Blacks are 4% in the state and I am getting tired of looking around and not seeing myself or black love. I'm single too and I am looking forward to having a larger group of blacks to interact with and more to do. I am keeping an open mind, going to try to be patient and have some fun. I am sure that we will be fine. With more to choose from that means more competition but that just means we'll have to step our game up. Good luck!

I'm 23, lived in the H my whole life, and I think the dating scene is decent, but be ready for a few things:

1) You will see alot of eligible, good looking Blk men with white or hispanic women. It may not bother u, but it bugs me and alot of my single and looking friends

2) White men may look but they don't hardly approach. People are not very forward here. Same goes for other non-Blk men. But I'm starting to see more Blk women with non-Blk men. Not as much as the Blk male/ hispanic female combo.

3) Alot of the educated and salaried Blk men think they are a gift from God Himself and they act accordingly...meaning they date multiple women, play hard to get, and act disinterested...some of em think they are too good for Blk women.

4) If you don't like to go out to the club/lounge/events/cafes, that may make your dating life a little slower. But of course, those are not the only places to meet guys. The gym idea that NewYorkgal suggested is good. But Houston is a working city, and it seems that bars are a good place to mingle. Poetry cafes and soul concerts are a good place to meet that intellectual kind of brutha.

Really if u keep and open mind and positive vibe u are bound to meet some eligible men. 713vip.com, indmix.com, and alltheparties.com have events listed.

It depends on the individual, where you live and what you expect in a date.

Move to a nice area of the city, where you can meet men that interest you. Join a gym and see what the guys are like. Some gyms offer a "free membership special."

Many apartments have swimming pools.

I am not black, but we have some nice black, single men at our church. And church is the place that I suggest you look for someone. Lots of church-based single groups here in Houston. Also, you might consider broadening your horizons and meeting other types of gentlemen---Hispanic, white, Asian, etc. People have more freedom to choose now days. It's something you might consider. In any event, God bless you and welcome to Houston.
