We just had to have our beloved Ridgeback put to sleep. He always hated the "vets" office and it made me feel terrible that his last moments would be at a place he hated. Would you use a "housecall" service to put your animal to sleep at your home?? Has anyone ever heard of this type of service?

There are definitely vets who perform this service. It varies by area, though. If you are faced with this tough decision in the future, I'd look in the phone book for a vet that travels. Also, I've worked with several veterinarians who weren't mobile, that made housecalls in special situations. If you have a good relationship w/ your vet, you could ask him/her.

Some vets make housecalls, and there are mobil vet services as well. You just have to call and make arrangements ahead of time. My vet does it from time to time if requested.

Yes - it's preferable to many people to have the euth done at home. I know of many friends who have preferred to put their dogs to sleep that way. I agree - taking them to a place they might hate is not OK with me either.
