as we know it, and instead goes by anything is okay to do as long as it does not harm anyone or anything? Why the gray area (i.e., absolutes)?

Man is sinful and as such very individualistic. What is right for you is wrong for me and visa versa. It is an attempt to make a persons conscious the final arbiter and not an external set of values. When this is accomplished a person can say "I am my own God" and fill the void in their life with their narcicistic self and none other.

When we admit to the fact there is an external set of rules and guidance (i.e. right and wrong) we no longer can exhalt ourselves as highest.

We are living in a time where it is necessary to accept tremendous diversity, to compromise with it and be peaceful with eachother. Because of this we cant set out all the 'correct' rules of what is right and wrong to all the children, and because of that there is mass confusion. I can tell you I am one person who does NOT beleive that anything is okay, just because it doesnt harm anyone. But I am free to make my own choices about what is right and wrong, and im also free to make decisions that will hurt certain people, and accept the probable consequences.
We dont need gods or ancestors to tell us what ethics is. In the full extent of history, many cultures and many gods have come and gone, depending on what was fashionable in some place at some time, But the concept of right and wrong has persevered, and continues to.

You actually pose many questions here "Moving away from Right and Wrong? as we know it" Who is this we you are talking about? Ok for arguments sake we will say Judeo/Chriatian values, (not to put down other belief systems, but this is the dominant in the US.) The number one answer to your qustion would then be that science is now the godhead of the modern world, which then leads directly into the second part of your question which states "do anything as long as you do no harm", hey isn't that part of the Physicians oath!

Lastly, I must say that your assumtion that it is ok to do what you like as long as you do not harm anyone or anything is an idealistic and Utopian concept and is hardly the truth of the matter. In reality most people act according to what they beleive in and in many cases this gives them sanction to kill, injure and destroy others in the name of that belief.

Finally, remember no one will kill you for the truth but many will kill you for what they believe in. ISM's are the greatest danger to our lives and freedom.

Anti-Christians don't want any restrictions on what they promote. They therefore attack christians for apposing sin.
they also appose scripture because it shows right from wrong (no moral gray areas).
note: the problem with moral relativism who gets to decide where the limits are. What group will complain they want to be included when they are left out.
sin is sin

Right and wrong are based on your idea of what is good and evil. The good and evil that you see don't even exist in reality, at least not outside of the mind that believes in them. They are only judgments passed by the individual from their own unique perspective. What one person sees as bad or evil may seem to be the only logical thing to do from some other perspective. The ideas of both good and evil are point of view specific. This is why people like bush and bin laden are either loved or hated. Bush is seen as good by people who share his fear based thought system. Those who have a compassionate concern for all of mankind often see him as evil.

Bin laden is much the same. He is a villain in much of the western world, but he is somewhat of a celebrated pop star on the Middle East. There are T-shirt shops that sell items with his picture as though he was Jesus. It all depends on your point of view or perspective.

To sum it all up good is the name we give to people who do things that we think we like.

Evil is the name we give to people who do the things that we don’t like.

This is of course based solely on our particular point of view.

Because western people have a delusion that the golden years were in the past. This is completely fallacious. 1st world people are having babies later than ever. living longer than ever, have more law enforcement than ever and less disease than ever in human history.

Sure some standards are relaxing compared to the recent few decades, but long before that, they were far more salacious and hedonistic than today. It cycles.

Plus Don H is quite correct.

There was a time when it was unacceptable for women to speak. There was a time when it was unacceptable for women to pursue an education. There was a time when it was acceptable to beat your wife. There was a time when it was acceptable to sell your family members. There was a time when it was acceptable to brutalize children. There was a time when it was acceptable to kill someone who offended you.

Maintaining old beliefs is not necessarily in your best interest.

Because in the last days mankind will not even allow God in their conscience thinking.

They are already claiming sin is a man made concept.
