She is important insofar as she brings ratings to the news programs. The news programs who pretend to report only stories that are "newsworthy" will then talk about the other news channels and how obsessed they are with Paris Hilton.

Paris Hilton gets good ratings for news broadcasts and gossip shows.
If you want decent news reporting tune into PBS.

with the internet and cable television everything becomes news, even stupid things that don't matter, like Paris Hilton, or a $400 haircut
of course they have better things to report, but people get bored with real news

Well since all the news of Anna Nicole has passed they needed a new "celebrity" to move ontot and now its Paris Hilton. Give it some time they'll move on to someone else. I heard that Nicole Ritchie might be going to jail...so maybe it'll be on her.

It's all about the ratings. I swear, the other night....every station was reporting on her except Nancy Grace. She was the only one that was reporting on the Kelsey Smith case. That's kind of sad really, but it's all for ratings and people do tune in.
