I believe the original answer was WMD -- then when that turned out to be false it was to establish a democracy in the Middle East.
To me, even the WMD argument didn't fly unless there was clear evidence they were producing them and giving them to terrorists who then attacked the United States.
I can't think of a good reason why we invaded Iraq. It was one of the most seriously flawed foreign policy decisions ever and the repercussions are still coming in.

In the past the USA made many mistakes, but history will show that the war against Saddam Hussein was the biggest mistake of them all!
Saddam Hussein was a friend of the west and the only bullwark in the middle east against the islamic fundamentalists!
Allready now these fundamentalists are gaining power in Iraq and by the time the amercian soldiers move out of Iraq the mullahs and ayatollahs will take over with the help of Iran!
Untill now more americans died in Iraq than on 9/11in New York, not mentioning the hundreds of billions of dollars spent there for naught.
And to the question above, the war against Saddam Hussein was never connected to wmd but was based only on the fact, that Mr. G.W.Bush wanted to show his daddy that he can do better than him! The whole world knew at all times that Saddam Hussein was no danger to the western countries but only to his fundamentalist neighbours!
If, instead of killing Saddam Hussein, the US would have given him more assistace, Iran would now be no problem!

We are in Iraq because Bush and Cheney lied about WMDs to get in there and blast the place to hell. The only good thing they did there so far is to get rid of Saddam Hussein. They should only go to war with Iran and North Korea if there is an immediate threat that we for sure would be attacked today or we have been attacked by Iran and North Korea and there is actual proof that those countries have done it.

We're in Iraq for a few reasons. First, Natural resources. Oil/Gas companies were virtually cut off from the vast supply of oil in Iraq during Saddam's rule. History will show that when you have a nation rich in a particular resource of interest whose leader is not sympathetic to corporate american interests, then somehow, someway, we'll find a way to invade. Whether it be Iran, Iraq, etc. Secondly, we're in there to develop a firm strategic foothold in the region. With permanent military bases in Iraq we can keep a better eye on Iran, Syria. etc. Thirdly, we're in Iraq because after 9/11, it was the EASY target to strike. Some americans, Bush's americans in particular, wanted to strike back at ANYBODY whether they had anything to do with 9/11 or not. Iraq was an easy target as they had been depleted of any type of power after 10 + years of sanctions. Also, some might argue that Bush was wanting to make a name for himself as a war present, so he struck out at a weak nation with impunity, and manipulated the american public with fearmongering to follow his policies.
BTW- I would have to disagree with your assertion that Iran has nuclear weapons. Intellegence agencies, even Israeli intel. has indicated that Iran is years away from a nuclear weapon. Also, there is no proof that they are constructing weapons in the first place.

Britain attacked the Falklands, America attacks Iraq. Easy to win a war against countries without militaries. Korea and Iran both have militaries, though modest. How Bush is losing this war is what's truly humiliating.

Because we didn't have a treaty with Iran or North Korea that guaranteed unfettered access for weapons inspectors. Saddam had invaded his neighbors twice within a decade. When was the last time Iran or North Korea invaded someone?

Iraq attempted to assassinate one of our Presidents, attacked a neighbor that asked us to help, attacked us when we did, and paid suicide bombers to attack one of our allies.
The silly chant about WMDs is a simplistic attempt to narrow a complex issue down to one thing.
Iran and North Korea haven't attacked us, our interests, or our country.
Why does only one group (socialists) think it's strange that we aren't attacking them?
Patriots believe in sovereignty. For all of President Bush's aggressive policy toward Iraq, he has respected the sovereignty of nations that disagree with us, even endanger us, but haven't crossed that line.
Why is this so hard for some people to get, while at the same time they accuse our country of having a desire to be a conquering empire?
