why can't we wear white after labor day?
i can't seem to find this answer online in a book or even in a fashion magazine
who came up with this fashion faux pas and WHY?
what's wrong with wearing white after labor/memorial day? what day is it?
oh yeah..
how long does the nordstroms semi-annual sale last?
a week? a month? 2 weeks?
i just want ot know how long i have to "window shop" before actually purchasing my goodies.

hah i wear white all the time! i dont know that is such a retarted rule that some person who obviously doesnt like the color white made up. i mean isnt white like one of the colors of the flag? that makes no sense. sorry i wasnt able to answer your question though

this was an old tradition. not sure where or why it was started. basically between memorial day and labor day you could wear white white. rest of year "winter white" which is essentially cream. I still kind of adhere to that. just because most of my white clothing and shoes are very summery and just frankly in appropriate to wear in the winter due to weather.
However, these days I believe that fashion rule has gone by the wayside. Out here in California, it could be 80 and sunny at Halloween, so I will probably still wear white. If you are going to wear white at other times of year, think of different heavier fabrics and you should be OK.
Did some looking around and this rule looked more like an etiquette thing than a fashion thin. White was seen as a summer casual thing in the 1950s.
I do wear nice crisp button down shirts year round, and white turtleneck sweaters in the winter. So white has its place.
Labor day incedentally is first monday of September. Sept 3 this year.

Anyone CAN wear white, but it is out of fashion for the corlder days. White is a sunny color and keeps you cool. Wearing white in the fall makes you look clueless...almost like wearing shorts on a cold winter day.
