ok so i read that when pregnant you are suppose to try to avoid peak hours from the sun which are 10-3, so i went to the pool at 4 today, i was only out there for an hour and i had sunblock on from head to toe......yet i got ROASTED! i mean you would think i had rubbed baby oil all over me instead of sunblock i am that red, my legs got the worst of it, but my main concern is my belly becuase i am 25 weeks pregnant. i know the damage has been done since i am already burnt, but will i be ok? i have a dr appt monday so i didnt think i would need to call them. i just didnt know if it was harmful since i am pregnant or not....im really frustrated becuase any other time i go to the pool between 10- 3 and dont get burnt!

I did this too! When I was pregnant with my last son I went to relax by the pool and 30 minutes later I was scorched. The Dr told me the hormones from being pregnant will change your skins sensistivity to the sunlight, sometimes making it easier for you to burn. And boy was it hell being burt and round! But the doctor said the baby wasn't going to be effected by it, he said I would have had to have been in the sun for hours to make the baby sick. Mostly he was warning me to stay nicely hydrated because being burnt takes all of the moisture right out of you.
Im sorry! And Good Luck!!

Based on what my doctor and I have discussed, you will probably be fine. The main concern with being in the sun is overheating. If you were only outside for 1 hour and didn't overheat, you and your baby will probably be fine. Though you might be uncomfortable for a few days. Try rubbing an aloe vera product on your abdomen to reduce the chances for itching and peeling.

I am sure the baby will be fine. You are just going to be pretty uncomfortable for a while. I suggest definitely using 50 SPF or higher so as to make sure this does not happen again though. Also remember to reapply often. It was probably just a higher UV day than before. Congrats and try to stay comfortable!

you poor thing.... pregnancy could have changed ur skin- made u more sensitive to the sun but I don't think it could hurt the baby but still mention it to the doc. when u go. Try aloe vera gel or cream and/or tea tree oil. those may help soothe it. But NOT butter or vasilene- those are old wives tales that actually make burns worse. Good luck!

Yes, it really does matter!!!
While pregnant, even with strong sunblock you can get burned really badly. Pregnancy changes your body chemistry and can make you more vulnerable to sunburn (found this out the hard way last summer!) Last summer even with SPF 50 on, I got burned on top of burn, on top of burn, on top of burn!
Sunburn can make you very dehydrated and can increase your chances of Melanoma cancer in later years. Drink lots of liquids in the next few days and stay out of the sun completley.

it is not harmful to the baby, but to you! Your skin is more sensitive to sun during pregnancy, and you can burn badly (like you just found out!) Age spots can start to appear during pregnancy, and overexposure to sun can make them darker and larger. Plus there is always a risk of developing skin cancer. Just be more careful nexttime, and use sunscreen.

yea you'll be okay. . . but what you need to watch out for is when you stay out in the sun to much (weither you get sunburned or not) its not okay for your baby it will make them come out really red like they have been in the sun it makes them glow so be careful good luck
