I'm sure Ruth had a small part to do with it. Tradition - the teams have had over 100 years to hate each other - and geographic proximity may also be factors.

Because the two teams fight it out every year to see who will win the division. For the most part it has been the Yankees winning and the Red Sox finishing second over the last several years. Of course, if you want to go back to the curse of the bambino that might have been the start.

I dont think they are. If you notice when they are playing, when one runner gets on base, the opposing player talks to him and they are almost always joking around and laughing. If I had just gotten on base and I had a true rivalry with the opposing players, I would be giving them so much crap the whole time. I truely believe, that while yes, they are division rivals, they really dont care, as long as they beat them.
While I love the Yanks, I dont hate the Red Sox at all. I do hate Schilling and Pappelbon, and could do without Youklis.
I hate the Red Sox fans! They are the classless bunch who have to cheer "Yankees Suck" when they play the Royals. Thats incredibly lame.

ya it is because of babe Ruth, and i think also some other players were also sold to the Yankees. but it was mostly of the great bambino. and i know this because I LUV THE RED SOX!!!
