The average time (one half of couples) to pregnancy is couples <30 years of age is 5 cycles.
Intercourse every second day across the time of ovulation maximizes the likelihood for pregnancy. Ovulation occurs 12-16 days before the menstrual period. By counting backwards in the last 2 cycles, you can then "guess" when you are likely to ovulate in upcoming cycles.
Lubricants are poor contraceptives, but they do mechanically limit the ability of sperm to move through the normal vaginal/cervical secretions. Avoid them if possible. A "natural" lubricant that does not harm sperm is "egg white".
After ejaculation, stay together for 1-2 minutes while your husband's erection softens and he withdraws slowly to avoid pulling the ejaculate along the vagina.
After intercourse, remain in a lying-down position with a pillow under the hips or turn onto knees and elbows: either position for 10 minutes. (I have heard stories about standing on your head in the corner and even gravity boots if you prefer).

I'm confused. May 5? That was a month and a half ago. If you count the first day of your period as day one, count 14 days (two weeks). Day 14 is about the day you ovulate. Sperm live for at least 3-5 days. You can get pregnant from about day 8 (8 days after your period starts) until day 15 or 16. Its hard to pinpoint ovulation exactly without taking you temperature daily, but it's usually about 2 weeks before and after your period starts.

My gyno told me that the fertile days are 13-18 after your period ends. Count from the last day of bleeding ahead 13 days and start trying there. You can also take your temperature each morning before you get out of bed and when it rises about 1/2 to 3/4 of a degree then you are fertile. You need a graph chart to do this properly. Ask your Dr. about the Basal Body Temperature Chart. Good Luck.

If you have a normal 28 day cycle, you should ovulate around the 19th. You usually ovulate 14 days after the first day of your period.
