These sites are for scoubidou string, but the start is the same as the string you can buy in the USA now.

Added:
I do not know what you mean by 2 laced one, but I do know that for most patterns you use 2 strings at the same time.
So you can just hold the strings together when tying the first knot, tie them together with any knot you think is cool, or braid a little bit before starting to tie knots in them.
You can also make them in a big loop, alone or braided together.

The Dutch part of the Yoarra site has many pictures, but will be harder for you to understand.

See the 'voorbeelden' for what you can do with the string.

How To Start A Lanyard

if its the 4 strand lanyard, you use the same instructions as the chinese crown knot in macrame. take two long strands of your string or whatever, then fold in the middle marking the center. lay at right angles like a cross, now pick up holding at the cross with your left hand thumb and fore finger, lay the first thread that is above your thumb around your thumb and put the tail across the thread below your thumb, then lay the tail of that one across the next one and then the tail of that one over the next one, when you get back to your thumb that last tail must go through the loop where your thumb is, then you pull all 4 tails slowly , evenly until you have a little woven square, if you are putting a key chain ring or something on the lanyard do that when you make your first cross, so that you are forming the braid away from the key ring. keep repeating the process until its as long as you want, you can use two different colors of braiding plastic if you wish, making a colored pattern as you braid it, thats as good as i can do with simply written instructions.

I haven't made one in almost 45 years, but I remember taking two different colored laces and putting them through the clip that will be at the end of the lanyard. They probably need to be 4 or more times the length of the finished piece. Bring all end tips together. Then start the weaving process close to the clip. It is an over, over, over, over and through process. The first set will create the box or square shape that will continue through out the entire weaving. 1. take first piece and cross over second. 2. take second piece over first and cross over third. 3. take third piece over second and cross over fourth. 4. take fourth piece over third and weave under the first. That is the end of the first square. Reverse the process for the second and continue reversing until the lanyard is the length you want it to be. Hope this gets you started.
