It is a common thought that diabetics need to be careful of sugar intake. However, the list of foods to eat in moderation is much greater than just sweets. Foods that contain carbohydrates are bread, grains, cereals, rice, pasta, fruit, milk, yogurt, legumes (dried beans), starchy vegetables (corn, potato, green peas), sweets and starchy snacks. At a fast food restaurant choose a salad in place of french fries, drink iced tea or diet soda or water instead of a milk shake or regular soda, choose a grilled instead of breaded chicken breast on a sandwich. When eating out, choose a low-fat cut of meat and a vegetable and a salad, skip the bread basket, eat only 1/2 of the baked potato if you order one, if you want desert order something to share with someone or take 1/2 of it home for later. There really isn't anything that you can't eat with Gestational Diabetes, but it is important to limit your carbohydrate intake and complete a meal or snack with plenty of vegetables, a source of protein, and drink some water. I had Gestational Diabetes with my 4th pregnancy. She will be 10 in July and I have recently been diagnosed with Glucose Intolerance, a form of pre-diabetes. Women who have had Gestational Diabetes run a greater risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes later in life.

safe foods are those that contain very low sugar levels or none at all. veggies, meats and breads are fine, watch out how much fruit desserts and sauces containing sugars you order. Ask about what the veggies and meats have been cooked in, for example bar-B-Q sauce has a lot of sugar. Ketchup has a lot of sugar too, so if you go to McD's order a burger with no ketchup or sauces.
DO NOT HAVE SODA!!
go easy on fruit juice.
milk, tea sweetened with Splenda instead of sugar is good as is of course water.
