Candidiasis is an infection caused by a group of microscopic fungi or yeast. There are more than 20 species of Candida, the most common being Candida albicans. These fungi live on all surfaces of our bodies. Under certain conditions, they can become so numerous they cause infections, particularly in warm and moist areas. Examples of such infections are vaginal yeast infections.
Although it can affect any woman, candidiasis is more frequent among women who are pregnant, diabetic or obese. These conditions can alter the body's metabolic balance and vaginal acidity, and promote the growth of the fungus.
*feels like an intense itching, burning sensation, localized in your vagina and vulva. This itching is not always present, but can get really bad, so bad you can hardly walk, let alone ride your bike to the pharmacy or doctor to get it treated.
*looks like clumpy white stuff. Most medical descriptions compare the discharge to ricotta cheese, but it can range from thick and not clumpy to faintly yellow to thin and clear.
*smells like bread or beer. In fact, it smells pretty much exactly like yeast, although the yeast used in brewing and baking is an entirely different species (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). No bacteria could smell like that, so it's a great diagnostic.

Yeast infection is a result of what is called Candida Albicans. Which is a type of yeast, or fungus. The overgrowth of this yeast is often due to an imbalance in the acidity of a certain area of the female body, or in the body's hormones.
There are several common reasons why one may get a yeast infection. Such as Antibiotics, Diabetes, and certain lifestyle behaviors such as wearing tight clothes, wearing synthetic underclothes, wearing a wet swimsuit for a long time, steriods, and a weakened immune system are just a few causes.

A yeast infection is a fungal infection. It is possible for this type of infection to be pretty much in any warm, moist, creased area of the body, but most frequently in the vaginal area. They cause redness, itching and burning. They are very common and are not sexually transmitted nor are they contagious. Yeast infections are easily treatable with over the counter creams. You can also get a pill from your doctor, but the creams tend to work faster.

It is a nasty infection that we can get in the Vagina or even on the skin. Sometimes when females have unprotected sex, we can catch it from the male. I was told by a doctor that the male transfers it to the female. On the other hand.....Antibiotics can cause yeast infections on the skin. If it is on the skin like your hand or arm or face...rub Grapefruit seed extract (follow directions) on the skin & it will take it away. If it is in the vagina.....insert Acidophilus purchased from the Health Food Store only....needs refrigeration.....into the vagina at night time when going to sleep.....use for 3 nights....it will be gone. There are creams you can buy over the counter in a store....but I personally do not like using it.
