Why should the color of your skin,
Be the barrier your love is locked in?
Your skin can't stop a bullet.
And it will bruise slightly if you were to pull it.
So why does skin have so much power?
That you would let hate overcome and devour,
The very decency you were taught to show.
Why does it matter if if you're Black or White as Snow.
Now you know,
That love doesn't cost a penny.
Hate may hurt a few,
Yet love takes over many.
Next time you feel the danger of hate creep in.
Look in a mirror,
Realize it's only Skin.

Whitehouse. You have totally missed the boat with an overzealous explanation. The point I'm trying to to stress is love not skin. This is where reading would be fundamental.

Wow! That was incredible! I thought I was reading a question at first to realize your poetry was flowing. A great deal of powerful words said, and it didn't take many words. You need to start putting a poetry book in motion.
Skin shouldn't matter, I guess it does matter to those who have low-self esteem. I don't mean to be cruel but if one has nothing positive going on their life, they want to display the crab syndrome and pull everyone else down with them. Love is precious and will always reign over hate, and racism. Jesus is Love. That settles it.

It depends. A lot of girls kinda go for guys within their own race, while it doesn't matter to a lot of other girls. I guess if your friend is going for girls that have a completely different skin color, he *might possibly* have a more difficult time? There are a TON of women who are very tan/have darker skin color too though.

It would be nice if people who need to see this do. However, I doubt it would change anything. People of all different colors are prejudice or hate (due to skin color). Because they are raised that way, or it makes them feel better about themselves, or just plain ignorance. To the person who said that about "blacks" killing, they are not the only ones who commit murder. It's just plain stupid to stereotype people. We are all so much more than the color of our skin. These people who hate others so much are really hurting themselves. It's sad. I actually met a "black" guy who said he was a white man trapped inside a black mans body. I felt sorry for him. Because he needs to love himself and his race. I know a lot of prejudice still exist. I know it must be very difficult. However, their are decent people in every race.

If you make it matter then it will matter.
I've stopped making it matter and you can to.
notice that the words to describe don't really describe it all (Black, White, Yellow, Brown)
Most that refer to themselves as Black are at best light brown
People that refer to themselves as White are usually pink or real light brown or tan-infact when we see someone who is white they are labled as Albino.
Asians often referred to as Yellow are in fact a creamy tan or more light orange
Latinos, Italians, Mexicans are often referred to as Brown, in fact when they have a tan look red.
Why can't we just be people and individuals. Not always apart of some group so a particular government can put us together because it is easier form them and their little surveys.

wow, very powerful words. its sad that some would rather feel superior than get to know a truly good person based upon their outer shell. funny if you think about the term 'dumb animals', but do you ever see white cats only hanging around white cats or brown dogs who shun the spotted dogs??? hate is just based on plain stupidity and ignorance of history.
seriously, you should publish that, even if its just your local newspaper.

great poem
Here's a secret to the influence of skin. If you don't let it define you, people wouldn't and when you come across the bigots who cannot see past the color of your skin, you will just walk past them because you know you do not want to have anything to do with such narrow mindedness

I wish one of my supervisors would take your advice. I am only 1st generation born in USA too, but I look all the same to him. He even tried to get me fired.
But it's OK, at least I know what he is and I will be sure to teach my kids they are not your friends.

Skin is only biological material that comes with different levels of melanin in it and that is all it is. It is only the narrow mind which makes the mountain out of the molehill.

exactly! the only difference in everyones skin color is the amount of skin protection. the difference only came because people needed to adapt to their environment IN ORDER TO SURVIVE. so why does is make such a difference? i dont know. but there are bad people and good people in every color, country, and society
so SCREW whoever says skin color matters :)
