It's the technology and the strategy that interests fans. If you want proper open wheel racing watch GP2 or CART.

I used to think hey what the hell am I doing watch the F1 when I could be at the beach or having a nap or whatever, but than Mclaren overtook or won and I would feel elated for the rest of the day.
Since I managed to go to Monza the interest is more real.
If I had to see lets say Le Mans 24 or some other race at the track I would probably get more intro watching it on TV more.

Because of F1 car and track design, there is very little side-by-side racing or passing compared to NASCAR or even Indy. Also, because of the winding tracks it is difficult to get camera angles that show you anything other than a car zipping into and then out of the frame. If you don't look at the stats or listen to the commentators, it is often difficult to tell the difference between qualifying and racing in F1!

I think its a matter of opinion, for me (im sure most americans wont agree) NASCAR is soooooo boring, Cars that just go round and round on an oval track has no excitement, it seems to me that there is no real skill involved in it because they wouldnt know a corner if it had big bright flashing signs pointing to it. But like I said, its just my opinion.
I will agree though F1 is not as exciting as it used to be, but since the Death of Ayrton Senna a lot of safety rules came into play which slows the cars down, and before when the cars came in the pits as fast as possible just for tires then left now there's a speed limit, and they stop for tires and fuel

Rampant technology and sanitized tracks has made passing (among the leading cars) an almost impossible task in modern Formula One racing and transformed it into what indeed could be interpreted as dull racing.
Still, for those of us who have traipsed around the world to race tracks (rather than watching on TV from the comfort of a living room), the spectacle is anything but dull. Formula One often doesn't translate into good TV anymore, at least it hasn't for the last 10 or so years.
If you want to witness really good competitive racing, you really have to watch the lower formulae such as Formula Ford, Formula 2000 or Formula Renault.

Like any sport, if you do not understand the rules and or follow the players, it is boring. I have been a formula one fan for years and years. This year has been the most exciting for a while. Watch the race on Sunday, listen to the commentary, understand the strategies and enjoy!!!

Lack of overtaking on track. Much of it now only happens during the pit stops
