A walking foot is an accessory for a sewing machine. Usually the "foot" is the part that sits on top of the fabric and traps it to the base of the machine while you're sewing. The foot sort of surrounds the needle. Anyway, it is used usually for multiple layers to prevent them from shifting while feeding through. Can be seen used in quilting as well as with fabrics that either stretch or slip easily.

On a lot of Sewing Machines there is a Foot Pedal Underneath the Body of the Machine next to the Floor this must be what you are talking about. I have an Old Singer Sewing Machine that was my Mothers and it has one. I would say it dates from the 1900ds and it is used now as a Table in one of the Bedrooms. Most machines now are Electrically Operated and dont have one.

A walking Foot is a special foot that helps the fabric feed evenly as you are sewing. It is used for sewing quilts and sometimes specialty fabrics such as velvets to keep them from slipping as you are sewing. If your machine came with one it would be listed in the items supplied with your machine, but most of the time this is an optional accessory that has to be purchased from your dealer.
Hope this is helpful to you.

A foot on a sewing machine is the part under the needle that you can drop down so your fabrics dont slip the wrong way while your working, you can tell if your sewing machine has one by just checking if there is a little metal piece almost shaped like a squared horshoe under your needle, there should be a lever tto lower it down, so dont be afraid to chekc it all out, just try pushing some levers and see what they go to!

There are different kinds of walking feet. The two most common are a plastic one that is attached to your presser foot, and a presser foot that has tiny wheels on it.

The presser foot is the piece that holds the material down while you sew.

Use your telephone. Call a sewing machine repair place, and ask. Sometimes the internet is useless!
