I have a friend who just bought a house in Minnesota and I simply don't know what to get her.

I don't know if it's appropriate or not, but I was given a space heater for Christmas many years ago and have used it ever since. They work very well in small rooms and seem easy on energy bills. Your friend might not appreciate it at first, but she will in the long run. As for them being supposedly dangerous, as I said I've used mine for a long time with no problem. Most are designed to automatically shut off if they are tilted even a little bit. You just have to keep them away from flammables, which is only common sense.

I think it would be nice-considering they live in Minnesota. Winters can be cold there so im sure they will get great use out of it.

I have had a couple and both scared me. Get her a beautiful afghan or throw that she cuddle up in next to a fireplace.

LOL, actually, that probably wouldn't be a bad idea! I live in Ohio and used one in a couple of rooms this winter - and our winters are nearly as bad as theirs.
