Should get a bath or shower with normal water.. a little bit cooler than normal.. it will bring down his temperature faster.. and he should not be so covered up with blankets either.. Although cold compresses on the forhead and neck help also.
some people believe in "sweating" the fever out.. but is not recommended when going too high. Give him plenty of liquids and watch for any signs of disorientation or symptoms that may show that he has something serious.

The best thing is to give him an anti-pyretic e.g. panadol, 2 tabs four hourly. Don't put extra blankets on him even though he probably says he's feeling cold or has the shakes. So much for the fever, now the truely important thing is whats causing the fever in the first place. Where is the site of infection and with a fever of this level he needs to be seen by a Doctor or Emergency Dept. blood cultures and other test need to be done to identify the source of infection.
Cheers

first, get rid of the blankets. have him take a tepid shower and make sure he takes the motrin on time. he's going to complain about the shivers but, it's an old wives tale that sweating out the fever is a good thing. keep a cool towel on his head as much of the body's temp is released through the top of the head.102 isn't really to bad in an adult. it's most likely a stomach bug of some sort. theraflue works really well on the aches and shivers.

Why on earth would you give him a blanket? It only traps the heat in. If his temperature is still rising even after taking Motrin, then he needs to see a doctor.
In the meantime, he should take a lukewarm bath, dress in light clothing, drink some liquids like Gatorade and have a cool cloth on his forehead. But he should see someone as Motrin isnt taking it down.

He just needs to rest and let his body fight off the infection causing his fever. Giving him motrin or tylenol is good. Make sure he takes it about every 5 hours to keep the fever at bay. Make sure he drinks plenty of fluids. He'll be better in a couple of days.

If your father has a fever and is shivering I'd suggest you call a doctor. My brother did that once and it turned out his internal temperature was high and he was having seisures.
Of course I doubt this is what's happening to your dad but the doctor can give you REAL medical advice. Something far more reliable than the advice of strangers.

Luke warm, cool bath. If it continues to climb call a doctor right away, it's an indication of infection or other more serious problem.
