I went to Auto Zone and they said there was nothing in their stock other than some Goo Be Gone (or something like that) and that stuff would also take the paint off.

I don't think goo gone takes off paint. Y not try it on a inconspicous spot on your car.

Alternatively, fill up a pot or bucket w/ hot water, and scrub it off w/ a wash cloth. Also, try peanut butter (it works in hair!).

Definitely go with the hot water and wash cloth.

WD 40 works pretty well. spray it on thick ( but not in bright sunshine, do it in the garage or in the cool part of the evening or morning) It won't hurt the paint since it is mostly fish oil. It works wonders on tar and bugs so should do well for you. I know peanut butter removes gum from hair, so you might try that too.

Try some Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound.... This stuff is great for removing scratches and years of oxidized paint. Surely, it can take off some chewed gum.

I would wait till your car is nice and hot then rub a rag over the gum and it will come right off.

Try this in a spot that no one is really going to look at first just in case something goes horribly wrong....You can use Mineral Spirits.
