B

In taxonomy, the hierarchy of relationships is:

Kingdom
Phylum
Class
Order
Family
Genus
Species

Organisms are more similar if they are in the same levels, and even more similar the further down those levels are. So two animals in the same genus are more closely related than two animals that only share a family.

Actually, mountain lions and cougars are not in different Genera - they're actually the same animal. They are different common names for the same critter - Puma concolor (also known as the puma, painter, American panther, catamount, mountain screamer, or deer lion)

So mountain lion and cougar are definitely more closely related.
