Well obviously It's not perfect but its better than it used to be, when teams with no chance of making the playoffs would intentionally lose games to try and guarantee they'd get the #1 pick.
I don't think tanking should ever be rewarded, because that's cheating the fans who don't make millions of dollars, and paid their hard-earned $$$ to see the game.
Teams will sometimes just be unlucky, like Boston & Atlanta- I have no problem with Portland getting the #1 pick. Besides, teams trade draft picks as part of deals, all the time (that's how the Pistons got ahead of the Warriors). That wouldn't change no matter which system is used.

In the NFL, losing on purpose is not big problem because
with a 7 round draft and 50+ players on rosters, picking a few spot earlier isn't a huge advantage.
In the NBA, many teams apparently lose on purpose to get a higher pick since "superstars" dominate in the nba. The current system discourages teams form tanking, to some extent at least.

The NBA plays 5 guys from each team on the court at one time so any one quality guy can make a huge difference to the win / loss outcome. The NFL plays like 20 - 30 guys in a game so it requires more great players to make a differences. Predicting which players will do well in an NFL draft is like rolling the dice in a Russian Roulette. You either hit or you miss. Dominant basketball players in college most of the time, have average to phenomenal NBA careers. That's why it is crucial to not allow NBA teams to tank on purpose in order to accumulate enough quality players to dominate the league. It will affect the competitive spirits among teams in the league and give certain teams a distinct advantage. It also reduces moral among the players and coaches while destroying faith in the NBA from fans around the league.

Pistons got that pick in a trade from a while ago, the actual order is by reverse records. The only variable from that are the top 3 picks which are decided by the lottery.

man, you gotta do your reserach before posting these things. detroit got that pick from orlando via darko milicic trade. detroit picking 15 makes sense since the magic have a worst record than GS. detroits actual pick is at 27 which also makes sense. and no the draft isnt flawed, the lottery system is a good one. it prevents teams like boston and memphis from purposely losing games to get a better pick. karmas a ***** aint it boston (5) and memphis (4)

I do not believe it is flawed and I love how they do the picking. It gives everyone a chance that did not make the playoffs a chance for the #1 pick. It also tells the teams out there that their is no point in tanking so you team can play and bring in some fans. I don't want a team that tanked to get the #1 pick. Good job NBA!

Yes, the lottery is flawed, but the reason it was started in the first place was to prevent teams from intentionally losing to get the number 1 pick.

The draft lotteyr is stupid, with little ping pong balls determining who gets the top pick. Boston or Memphis clearly desearved to be picking #1, and either should not have ben lower then 3.

I love what they have now so team should not tank to the last place just to get #1 pick.
